Hyderabad: Telangana government which wants to ensure that the brand image of Hyderabad does not get affected has taken yet another step forward in providing effective policing system.

With an aim to check incidents of crime ranging from chain snatching to terror attacks, the Hyderabad police on Friday introduced 17 interceptor vehicles which will have four specially trained and armed police personnel. The policemen will be wearing bullet proof jackets and armed with automatic weapons. The police personnel who would be patrolling in these interceptors are specially trained in commando operations and can handle any type of situation.

The idea of launching the interceptors is to infuse a sense of confidence among cross section of people of Hyderabad, said Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy. He said another 25 vehicles under Cyberabad commissionerate limits would soon be launched. These vehicles will be stationed at important strategic locations in the city like Secretariat, Assembly, Charminar, Road Number 36- Jubilee Hills, Telangana Bhavan cross roads and the Secunderabad railway station and will be on duty round-the-clock. The police personnel have been provided with high-tech communication equipment.

The police department has also set up a command control centre and the movement of all the vehicles will be closely monitored by the command control centre. The centre will also give necessary instructions from time to time depending on the situation.


TSDGP Anurag Sharma said the interceptor vehicles would be very useful in taking immediate action in the event of extremist, terrorist or any armed attack.
