Mancherial (Adilabad): Asifabad MLA Kova Lakshmi and Mancherial MLA Diwakar Rao said on Saturday that Bathukamma festival reflects the age-old culture of Telangana people.

They said they were elated to celebrate the first Bathukamma festival in Telangana State. The MLAs took part as chief guests in the Bathukamma festivities organised by HMTV and The Hans India at Ratanlal Gardens here.

Apart from local women and North Indian women also enthusiastically participated in the festival. About 400 women took part in singing and dancing on the occasion. They rendered various songs including ‘Iddaru Akka-Chellellu Vuyyala – Okkintikistene Vuyyala’.

Women also performed dandi ya dance during the celebrations. The local women explained about the significance of Bathukamma festival during an interaction with HMTV anchor Varsha. ZPTC Asha Latha and Municipal Chairperson Vasundhara also took part in the Bathukkama festival.
