Recently Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao held a review meeting with the Water Board officials and directed them to speed up the works at any cost.

“We have to lay only 2.5 km of pipeline. About 90 per cent of pump house and 85 per cent of the reservoir works have been completed. We have speeded up the works as per the directions of the Chief Minister with an aim to complete the works by January 2015,” informed Konda Reddy, director (projects), Water Board.

After KCR fixed the target, the water board authorities are inspecting the works almost every alternate day. As part of the plan the Water Board authorities recently checked the pipeline up to 29.7 km and found no fault.

As per the design, the total length of pipeline between Kodandapur and Sahebnagar is 108 km and the authorities have completed works up to 105.5 km. Laying the pipeline for the remaining two-and-a-half kilometres would be completed by this month-end, said a senior official.

Other works include clear water treatment plant and laying of pipeline for ring main-I between Sahebnagar and Prashasan Nagar, and ring main-II between Sahebnagar and Sainikpuri, a Master Balancing Reservoir (MBR) for storage of 117 ML and a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) of 90 MGD are going on at a brisk pace.

“By January, we would complete the project and by February or March, a trial run would be conducted,” said the official.

The project was undertaken with an estimated budget of Rs 1,670 crore and Rs 1,500 crore was taken as a loan from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) while Rs 170 crore was borne by the State government. So far works worth Rs 1,217.69 crore have been completed and bills worth Rs 1,197. 27 crore were cleared by the board.
