Despite the belief that the 800 MW Krishnapatnam Thermal Power Plant would be a great relief during the on-going power crisis, it is said that Telangana might not benefit from it.

Not very long ago, the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) sent back the power purchase agreement for the Krishnapatnam project with comments that the power of adjudication lay with the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), as it was to be an inter-state project.

Nearly 900 MW power is being supplied by short-term generators. Very few short or medium term agreements have been signed afresh up to now. The scope of obtaining power from outside the state is less as Tamil Nadu has already laid its claim over the grid corridor.

Hinduja National Power Corporation in Vishakapatnam and Thermal Powertech Corporation in Nellore may be other sources if the projects are commissioned as planned.
