Hyderabad: Is the fear of Andhra people living in Telangana over marginalisation by the State government after a comprehensive survey coming true?

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday announced that the people of Telangana origin would be issued special identity cards. He disclosed this at a review meeting with senior officials, District Collectors and Joint Collectors on Tuesday. “The comprehensive survey conducted on August 19 gave us a complete profile of the people of Telangana. We are still waiting for the complete details of the survey after which we will take some crucial decisions,’’ he told the Collectors.

Without further elaborating on the special identity cards, the Chief Minister announced that Telangana Food Security cards would be issued to those living below the poverty line. Exempting business persons, traders, government employees and those having more than five acres of agriculture land, rest of the people living in Telangana would be given these cards, he said. These cards would entitle the beneficiaries to avail of only essential commodities and would serve no other purpose.

In principle, he also agreed to give 5 kgs of rice a month to all the members of BPL families. Issuing a strong warning, the Chief Minister said officials would be taken to task if ineligible persons were in the final list of any of these new schemes being offered by the Telangana government.

KCR also directed the officials to issue fresh income, caste and residence certificates to the students by the month-end. The students needing these certificates for availing of loans under the FAST should submit their applications by October 15 to the tahsildars who were directed to issue the certificates by end of October.

Rao said pension amount was hiked for the physically challenged, senior citizens and widows and the enhanced amount would be given from the first week of November. These beneficiaries were also asked to submit their applications by October 15. In order to issue medical certificates for the challenged persons, Collectors were asked to organise special medical camps at their respective area hospitals.
