Warangal: With the collapse of joint-family system, the crime rate in the society was on the rise, observed Warangal urban superintendent of police A Venkateswar Rao on Tuesday.

He said families were breaking up because of the growing economic disparities and impatience among the people in the society. Even the educated persons were also becoming victims of petty disputes.

Increase in literacy and awareness levels was not contributing enough to wipe out minor misunderstandings between wife and husband, the SP lamented. He suggested that the problems could be sorted out within the family through proper counseling.

The SP inaugurated ‘Women Support Centre’ at Rangampet police station here on Tuesday under the aegis of Sarvodaya Youth Organisation in association with Karl Kübel Foundation for Child and Family and German Federal Ministry for Economic and Development.

“The counselors at centre would help women in need and police at the station which would boost confidence among women who are in distress while carefully examining both sides of complaint. Services of the centre could be utilized by all people in need,” the SP said.

Further, the SP said ‘Respecting women is our culture and we should uphold it in practice’.
