Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao addressing the Sikh community on the occasion of 545th Prakash Utsav of Guru Nanak Devji in Hyderabad on Thursday.
KCR, while attending the 545th Jayanti celebrations of Guru Nanak at Exhibition Grounds in Nampally on Thursday, lauded role of Sikhs in statehood movement. Karimnagar Mayor and TRS leader Sardar Ravinder Singh was the best example for this, CM said and added that Ravinder led from the front and mobilised thousands of Sikhs in support of separate state demand.

KCR stated that his government would take all steps for welfare of the Sikh community, which, he felt, did not get proper recognition and due in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh state. Kalyana Lakshmi scheme under which SC and ST families would be given financial assistance of Rs 51,000 for wedding of their daughters, would be extended even to Sikh families, he said.

Chief Minister suggested heads of Sikh community to consider building a big Gurudwara in Hyderabad, which should be the biggest in South India. Government would allot 3 acres of land for this purpose, he said and announced Rs 1.16 lakh as personal contribution for it.

KCR further announced financial assistance of Rs 1 crore for constructing a community centre for Sikhs. In response to requests from big gathering that attended the programme, CM announced that Guru Nanak Jayanti would be treated as a public holiday from next year onwards.
