Hyderabad: Bringing cheers to hundreds of industries scattered around the twin cities and other cities in Telangana, the State government on Wednesday decided to lift power holiday for industries with immediate effect.

The decision was taken following sudden fall in power demand. The main reason for the fall in demand is decreasing night temperatures.

Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) Chairman and Managing Director Raghuma Reddy said due to the completion of Khariff season and onset of winter season, there was a considerable fall in use of power across the State.

The official said continuous power generation in Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam left bank canal hydel power house and the reduced power demand were the main reasons for lifting one day power holiday in Telangana. All the industries would be supplied regular power without any interruption.

The Transco officials said 120 million units of power had been supplied as against 130 MU demand in the last one week. The power deficit was brought down to 10 MU from 25 MU in the last three weeks.

Sources said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao enquired about the availability of additional power from neighbouring states -Tamil Nadu and Karnataka - to lift the one-day power holiday in case the power demand increased. The managements of industries have been demanding the government for regular power supply.
