Hyderabad: The Telangana government, which is according top priority to supply of safe drinking water and development of roads especially in rural areas, has decided to float three new corporations in Panchayat Raj department. These are Water Grid Corporation, Rural Roads Corporation and Roads Development Corporation.

The State Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao here on Sunday evening, discussed for three hours on key issues and gave its approval to new industrial and sand policy among others.

However, in view of the ongoing budget session, there was no official briefing from government's end. Even Ministers did not wish to share information with waiting media outside the C Block. According to sources, the Cabinet discussed in all 24 subjects at the meeting. It was decided to immediately rechristen 33 of the 89 Corporations (under schedules IX and X), which are presently functioning for both states.

The Cabinet approved the much-awaited industrial policy with a single window system. The Chief Minister had in the past claimed that it would be the best and industrial friendly one in the entire country. Cabinet also gave its nod to the Women Safety Draft bill and the new sand policy. The Government is likely to introduce a bill on new industrial policy on the final day of the budget session. A chance of introducing bills on Women Safety and sand policy in this session itself is also not ruled out.

Rao and his cabinet discussed issues relating to Aasara scheme, power situation and state symbols, Rs 100 crore for cleaning of Hussainsagar lake, 22 percent reservation to SCs and STs in Market Committee posts, construction of pylon for drinking water grid at Choutuppal in Nalgonda district and establishing a Cultural Organization to utilize services of 500 folk artists and singers in popularising government schemes were some of the other decisions taken in this meeting. Also, the Cabinet decided to strengthen Panchayat Raj laws so as to equip Sarpanches with more powers.
