Hyderabad: As part of provision of various facilities at police stations, the government has earlier provided laser printers to all the police stations in the city. However, many of them are said to be non-functional after developing glitches. The police stations are not provided with any funds for their regular operational maintenance.

As part of the initiative of the ambitious Citizen-Friendly Policing, Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy recently forwarded a circular to all the Station House Officers (SHOs) under his jurisdiction, seeking details of the regular expenditure they had been incurring as operational costs.

It is learnt that after getting their feedback, a decision has been taken to implement the new measure to raise the monthly grants for proper upkeep of the copier machines and also for stationery items. At present, each traffic police station is provided with a meagre Rs 2,000 per month for miscellaneous expenses. This is also likely to be increased in the coming days.

A committee has been formed to study law and order situation, traffic, women’s safety, cyber crime and others in the city. The committee, which is headed by an Additional DCP and comprising of four Inspectors, has forwarded its recommendations to the Commissioner.

The committee suggested that funds could be utilised as part of investigation of a case, for stationary, for repairing of computers and printers, cleaning of station toilets, for provision of basic amenities like water to complainants, transportation of unidentified bodies, transportation of bandobust teams, and also for boarding and lodging of investigating teams visiting from other towns or cities.
