Warangal: Student community should put up collective efforts in rectifying the faulty education policies of the State and the Central governments, observed MLC Prof K Nageshwar here on Saturday.

MLC Prof K Nageshwar speaking at the SFI convention at Kakatiya University in Hanamkonda on SaturdayAddressing the delegates’ session at the State Universities Convention organised by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) at Kakatiya University, he said the poor and downtrodden communities were being deprived of access to professional education due to privatisation of higher education.

Prof Nageshwar said student unions, like SFI, should come up with specific action plan to address the issue. The basic objective of universities was creation and transmission of knowledge from generation to generation. If they fail to achieve the objective then the very purpose of universities would be defeated. He said in the present-day knowledge economic system, higher education has been given first priority to boost the country’s economy.

While promoting higher education, primary education should not be neglected, the MLC suggested. The university education system was being attacked by different forces. Student organisations should build concrete movements to rectify the anomalies in the system.

During the Telangana movement, university students played a crucial role, but the TRS government, which aims to achieve golden Telangana, allocated meager funds for universities, he averred.

Prof Nageshwar said there was no difference in the fund allocation to universities in Telangana and in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. All concerned should pay serious attention to the issue and ensure that the universities in Telangana were strengthened.
