The Telangana government is proposing to organise a ‘Porn Hackathon’ within three weeks by top ethical hackers to curtail access to porn sites. It will also seek the help of IT experts to prevent people from accessing to sexually explicit material from internet.

Information Technology Minister K Taraka Rama Rao with senior officials, IT experts and top ethical hackers to discuss the issue at Cyberabad Police Commissionerate on Saturday. The role of ISPs (internet service providers), education and awareness campaign in visual, print and social media to be carried out and the implementation of the IT Act were discussed in depth in the meeting.

The IT Minister said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was highly concerned about women and child safety. The government had earlier set up a committee on women’s safety as Poonam Mala- kondaiah as its chairperson which studied the issue in depth and came up with several recommendations.

One of the issues plaguing and compromising the safety and security of women and children is extensive transmission and viewing of child porn and general pornography. Therefore, the IT Minister discussed the steps needed to be taken to block viewing of child porn to start with, and porn in general later.

IT Secretary Harpreet Singh, Cyberabad Commissioner CV Anand, Home Secretary Soumya Mishra, Ramesh Ranganathan of HYSEA, Priya of NASSCOM and other senior officials attended the meeting.
