Hyderabad: Protesting against the Central government’s decision to amend the Road Safety Bill, 2014, Auto unions AITUC, IFTU, CITU, BMS and Telangana Auto Drivers JAC would go on one day strike on from midnight of December 4.

The unions feel that if the bill was passed by Parliament, heavy penalties would be levied on the autowallahs. According to them, the fine for driving without licence, which is between Rs 1000 and Rs 1,500 could be Rs 25,000 and for lack of auto permit, the fine could be up to Rs 50,000.

“The government which made a study in New Jersey is blindly aping US. If they penalise $ 1000, the Indian government is penalising Rs 60,000. How reasonable is this?” questions V Kiran, the IFTU General Secretary.
