Says Naidu's intentions are to harm interests of Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has accused Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of cooking up outlandish conspiracies to harm the interests of people living in Hyderabad. He sought to know from Naidu whether he had any right to stay in the city in view of his mala fide intentions.

Talking to reporters at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, Harish was highly critical of AP government’s letter to the Centre raising objections to Palamoor Lift Irrigation and Jurala-Pakala projects. Harish pointed out that the decision regarding these projects was taken long ago and corresponding GOs were also issued in the undivided State. However, the then government did not pursue these projects deliberately, he charged.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government has accorded top priority for Palamoor project since 30 tmc ft of the said project would be allotted to meet the drinking water needs of Hyderabad that has a population of nearly one crore.

Hyderabad is located in Krishna Basin but due to negligence of Seemandhra dominated governments in the past, the river was not properly used for drinking water needs in the capital region. Hence, as an alternative, Manjeera river water that was supposed to be utilised for Medak and Ranga Reddy districts, was diverted to meet the drinking water demand in Hyderabad but it proved insufficient due to the ever-increasing population, Harish added.

The Irrigation Minister called upon businessmen, industrialists, IT people and film fraternity to confront AP Chief Minister for his decisions to harm the interests of Hyderabad. “Chandrababu Naidu stays here with his family and relatives. He operates from Secretariat and even has Camp Office in Hyderabad. But he wants people of the city to suffer without drinking water,” Harish Rao said.

Jurala-Pakala scheme was meant to meet drinking water needs of Warangal district and the AP government even raised objection to even this, he fumed. Harish sought to know reactions of Telangana TDP leaders Errabelli Dayakar Rao and Revanth Reddy in the wake of Naidu's decision to harm Telangana interests. “Do they intend to suppress region's interests working under Naidu? Or else come out of that party,” Harish asked.
