Addressing a public meeting organised by Saidesam-Gandhi Margam Trust at Vanasthalipuram on the outskirts of the city on Saturday, Anna said that “corruption has been eating away the very roots of the society and life of the common man has become miserable.” Recalling his fast at Delhi to press the Union government for a strong anti-graft bill, he noted that the bill had been passed, but it was yet to be implemented.

Coming down heavily on the developmental policies being followed in the country, Anna said, “Plundering natural resources and consuming all its fossil wealth will pose a danger to the people, and it cannot be called development.”

Anna called upon the people to spare some time for serving the society, “which is in fact a big family, in which all of us are members.” He also urged people to guard against vices, make some sacrifice for society, adopt right thinking and patience to lead a virtuous life.

Saidesam-Gandhi Margam Trust chairman Cherukuri Rama Rao said that the Trust has been engaged in activities to inculcate patriotism, spiritual and moral values among children. It would continue to take up such activities as would ensure that society’s spiritual and moral values are rooted in India’s cultural ethos which alone would turn children into stronger future generations.
