Warangal: The State government’s flagship initiative ‘Mission Kakatiya’ aimed at desiltation and restoration of tanks, would bring glory to Warangal, said Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao.

The Minister directed the officials concerned to complete the task of calling tenders by December 15 and expressed anger over the lack of information with regard to the tender process. He told the officials to demolish all the illegal structures which came up within the boundaries of the tanks.

“Care would be taken to keep way the possible political interferences to stop the demolitions,” he said addressing officials and public representatives at an awareness meeting on Mission Kakatiya held at Kakatiya Medical College campus here on Tuesday.

He said the State government would be taking up restoration of 9,000 tanks across the Telangana State this year. He said as much as Rs 2,000 crore was earmarked this year for the project. It was planned to spend Rs 20,000 crore during the next five years for the revival of tanks across the state.

Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharti was invited to launch the programme along with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in January, 2015. The work would be completed by May, so that the tanks would be ready by the time of arrival of monsoon, he said.
