Tandur: Failure of cotton, pulses, paddy and groundnut crops in Peddamul, Bashirabad, Yalal and Tandur mandals of Ranga Reddy district due to insufficient rain and delayed monsoon has caused heartburn among farmers. They had invested in crops after raising loans. With crop failing and not getting returns on the investments, farmers have been resorting suicide.

In the recent past farmers in distress Nagaiah of Timsanpally, Manaiah of Bandepally and Kurva Yadaiah of Salbathpur died. While Nagaiah died of heart failure due to stress, the others committed suicide by immolation and hanging respectively.

Farmers of the three mandals have appealed to the State government to come their rescue by waiving all loans without conditions as promised in the TRS manifesto. DCCB chairman Lakshma reddy, Tandur constituency in-charge Ramesh, BJP leader Bal Reddy and TDP leader M Naresh have warned to launch agitations by their respective parties if the government failed to provide succour to farmers.
