Hyderabad: In February this year, the Army imposed restrictions and stopped people from traversing in the night through defence areas in Secunderabad. It decided to stop flow of traffic totally after few days. According to army officials, the decision to impose traffic restrictions was for security reasons as the defence establishment is amid civil areas.

However, due to public uproar and issue reaching the court, Army kept its plans on hold. But, in a ruling given in last week of September, High Court gave a nod to Army for traffic restrictions. Later, Army authorities enforced restrictions in a phased manner to regulate the civilian traffic on the Entrenchment Road, Wellington Road, Gough Road and Ordinance Road between 10 pm and 7 am.

Marking the onset of its second phase of blockades in the Secunderabad Cantonment area, the Army has formally communicated that it will close down two stretches, Gough road and Wellington road, from January 1, 2015.

Affected areas

Residents of Gautham Nagar, Safilguda, Neredmet and Anandbagh would be cut off from Secunderabad. Likewise, inhabitants of RK Puram, Sainikpuri, Defence Colony, AS Rao Nagar and beyond cannot reach Secunderabad via Military Hospital and AOC Centre. They would have to travel up to Trimulgherry Crossroads and take the already congested Rajiv Rahadari to reach Secunderabad.
