Hyderabad: Telangana government has decided to reward engineers who excel in successful implementation of its flagship programme, Mission Kakatiya. The rewards include promotions besides postings in places of their choice, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said this on Friday. “It is our way of recognising employees for their outstanding contributions in work” and urged engineers in irrigation department to take tanks restoration as a big challenge and strive for making it a success with a spirit of teamwork.

The Minister has distributed laptops and modern survey equipment to the engineers. He had personally distributed them at a programme held at Jalasoudha, the headquarters of Irrigation department, where AEs, AEEs, DEEs, EEs, SEs and CEs as well as senior officials of the department were also present.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Harish said the previous practice of obtaining postings by lobbying and other methods would not be entertained any further. He asked engineers to upload information of works progress on online on daily basis. According to Harish, not only senior officials, along with him, even the Chief Minister's Office would keep track of these developments regularly.

He said he would not hesitate to enquire directly from the concerned engineer of a mandal, if data was not updated. He emphasised on transparency and expedition of works without delay, so that 9,000 tanks could be revived in the next five months before the onset of monsoon. A Quality Control wing with sufficient staff would make inspections in 10 districts without notice, the Minister added.

Harish called upon engineers working in mandal level to involve and sensitise local representatives in preparation of estimates and related works. He assured that there would not be any interference from anyone in discharge of their duties. Meanwhile, Harish informed that Water Resources Minister Uma Bharathi has given her consent to be the chief guest for the launch of Mission Kakatiya drive.
