Warangal: The district police have arrested a pseudo Naxal Jannu Koti alias Ravi on Friday. He belongs to Chalaparthy village of Duggondi mandal in Warangal district. He was nabbed in connection with an incident that took place at Mahabubabad on the night of December 4 wherein a gang of five fake Naxalites claiming to be activists of Communist Party of United

States of India (CPUSI) fired at a police patrolling party at Etigadda thanda near Mahabubabad. Earlier, police have arrested three persons of the gang S Shankar and Bhukya Jayaram along with Krishna Murthy. Two tapanchas, three 8mm live cartridges, one detonator, one gelatin stick, safety fuse wire and Rs 18,000 cash was recovered from them.

Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Ambar Kishor Jha, who produced the accused before the media at police district headquarters, has informed that they have recovered one tapancha and one round of live ammunition from Ravi.

Ravi was arrested when police party was conducting vehicle inspections at Muuneruvaagu bridge on Mahabubabad town outskirts. He confessed to the police that two months back along with another gang led by Suresh of Balajipeta of Bayyaram mandal in Khammam district have threatened a quarry owner at Maripeda bungalow in the district and extorted Rs 5,00,000 from him. The SP informed that the main accused in the case S Krishna Murthy, who claims to be the Telangana state general secretary of the CPUSI, had confessed to have hidden eight gelatin sticks and eight electronic detonators at Gummunur village near Mahabubabad at the residence of his friend Bandi Venkanna without his knowledge. The explosive material was seized by the police. The manhunt for the fifth member of the gang was on and soon he would be arrested, he said. The SP said that traders, contractors and general public should not give in to the pressure from those posing as naxals to extort money.

They should inform police about such gangs which are moving in villages of Agency areas, said.
