Tandur: Hopes of many elderly persons, widows and physically challenged persons who have been looking forward to receive the enhanced pensions were dashed on Saturday after many names were dropped from the list of beneficiaries. They had been making rounds of the MPDO and municipal offices complaining about non-inclusion of many names, but not none was bothered about their plight.

These pensioners had high hopes after Chief Minister KCR announced increased amounts. But the government belied their hopes. Kurva Buggamma of Peddamul who is born visually challenged told The Hans India that she had been receiving pension when the amount was Rs.30. She had applied two months back and was shocked to be told about her name missing from the list. Alivelu of Rajiv Colony said she had been receiving widow pension since losing her husband five years back. ‘I am disappointed after finding my name deleted from the beneficiaries’ list’.

Minister’s assurance Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, while distributing pensions at the municipal office, promised that the amounts would be paid to all eligible persons. He said the day’s payment was the first phase. Those who had not received should not be agitated. He advised them not to believe the Opposition criticism.

Municipal chairperson Vijayalakshmi, Councillors Sunita Sampath, Sumathi, Sajid, Municipal Commissioner Gopaiah were present. There was heavy police deployment. Councillor Sumathi alleged that the police had stopped the ineligible persons. She claimed that names of many beneficiaries were missing because both politicians and officials were biased.
