Hyderabad: Shilparamam, the one of its kind arts, crafts and cultural village centre in Hyderabad faced total destruction and neglect in the undivided Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said on Monday. This centre was built to sell novel and unique products made by highly skilled artisans besides showcasing traditional handicrafts. However, due to apathy of the past governments Shilparamam turned into a concrete jungle, he lamented.

  • KCR rues it has turned into ‘concrete jungle’
  • Flays that it is shorn of rich rural atmosphere
  • Vows to develop it and restore its lost glory
  • Warangal to be made the second best city
  • Shilparamams to come up in all districts

Rao was speaking after inaugurating the All India Handicrafts Mela at the venue on Monday evening. Shilparamam sans village atmosphere does not make sense. This name was derived from Ramappa, the renowned sculptor during Kakatiya regime, Rao said reminded that he had written even a song earlier praising the former’s rich contributions to art.

Rao vowed to extend all help to revive the lost glory of Shilparamam. TRS government is committed to transform Shilparamam as one of the main tourist attractions in the world. He also desired to establish such a centre in every district and tourist place in Telangana in the coming years.

He said the government would make Warangal city the second best city in Telangana state and as part of this TRS government will establish Shilparamam in Warangal. A step has been taken to transform Warangal into Greater Warangal, with inclusion of 42 surrounding villages from five mandals in Warangal district. The government had recently released Rs 14 crore, the CM said. The government also proposes to have Shilparamams in all TS districts in a phased manner.
