Hyderabad: The stage is set for the first cabinet expansion of Telangana council of ministers. Six new Ministers will be inducted on Tuesday, taking the total strength to 18.

  • Cabinet expansion today; 6 Ministers to be sworn in at 11 am
  • Tummala, Jupally, Laxma Reddy, Chandu Lal, Indrakaran and Talasani to be inducted
  • Talasani to resign from Assembly and Telugu Desam Party on Tuesday
  • KCR takes up elaborate exercise to see that there is no dissension over his choice

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao made an elaborate exercise to ensure that there was no dissension in the party. Though Koppula Eshwar expressed his unhapiness as his name did not figure in the list of probables, KCR spoke to him and pacified him assuring him that his political future was safe and that his services to the party would be given due recognition. Later Eshwar told media that he will accept any role given to him by KCR. Rao also consulted senior party leader K Keshav Rao before finalising the list.

In the evening, KCR sent a list of six names to the Governor ESL Narsimhan who would be taking oath on Tuesday morning at 11 am at Raj Bhavan. The six new ministers will be Tummala Nageswara Rao, Jupally Krishna Rao, C Laxma Reddy, Chandu Lal, Indrakaran Reddy and Talasani Srinivas Yadav. However, even the expanded cabinet will continue to be an all male cabinet.

Even before an official word was out on this, supporters of Tummala and Talasani erected huge cutouts, flexis and banners in Begumpet and other surrounding areas congratulating them on being appointed as ministers.

Political analysts feel that Tummala’s selection was a foregone conclusion as he was a senior politician; he switched loyalty from TDP to TRS few months back. Tummala is expected to accommodate him as an MLC since the Khammam leader is not a member of any house.

Though initially Warangal MLAs Konda Surekha and D Vinay Bhaskar were said to be the front runners but following strong opposition from mainly Warangal unit of the party and the intense desire of KCR to make inroads in the ensuing GHMC elections seems to have weighed heavily in favour of Talsani. Talsani will be resigning from Assembly and TDP on Tuesday at 8 am.

Rao is understood to have appeased Surekha when she met her at Camp Office on Monday. Vinay Bhaskar who is a strong loyalist of the party, was given parliament secretary post. Hyderabad has already three persons in the cabinet. Naini Narasimha Reddy, Mahmood Ali and Padma Rao.

Jupally Krishna Rao’s name has been making rounds for long. A former minister in Congress government, he resigned from the coveted post and party to join TRS in 2012 when the statehood agitation was at its peak. Though it was thought Jupally would be included in the first phase, he missed the chance out due to caste equations.

Jadcharla MLA Laxma Reddy and Mulugu MLA Chandu Lal made it on district and caste equations respectively. Mahabubnagar is the biggest district in Telangana and hence two berths are being given to it.
