Adilabad: Intense cold wave conditions are prevailing in Adilabad district. The lowest minimum temperature of 3.9 degrees Celsius was recorded in Adilabad on December 20.

A temperature of 4 degrees Celsius was recorded on December 18 and 8 degrees Celsius on December 17. Generally, every year Adilabad records the lowest minimum temperature in Telangana as it is located in a higher altitude and as significant area in the district is covered by forests.

According to met officials, there has been a significant fall in temperatures due to blowing of dry winds from North India. Roads are covered with fog till 10 a.m. in the district. Municipal sanitary workers who sweep roads early morning are facing severe inconvenience. Paper boys and morning walkers are also facing problems.

Farmers are not going to their fields in the morning hours. People are not venturing to move out of their homes before 10 a.m. to attend to their chores.

People were returning to their homes by 5 p.m. fearing the intense cold wave conditions. The roads were wearing a deserted look by 6 p.m. People are seen enjoying the warmth of bonfires at different places.

Temperatures have gone down significantly in the Agency areas in the district. Viral fevers have been rampant in Adilabad district. Local people fear that the dip in temperatures may lead to further spread of viral fevers.

Following reports that students of social welfare hostels were facing problems due to dip in temperatures, District Collector M Jagan Mohan directed mandal officials to conduct inspections of the hostels and present a report on the prevailing conditions.

Minister Jogu Ramanna and the Collector visited different hostels to study the conditions there.

Cold wave is also prevailing in other districts of Telangana State. Karimnagar district recorded a lowest temperature of 7.8 degrees Celsius.
