Cops pull up revellers on high
For pie-eyed revellers, the New Year’s Eve was not all that cheery, thanks to the watchful cops who took positions across the nook and cranny of the twin cities to make sure the celebrations passed off without any accident and untoward incident. Hyderabad police booked about 400 persons for drunken driving and seized their vehicles.
Book 400 persons for drunk driving on New Year’s Eve
Hyderabad: For pie-eyed revellers, the New Year’s Eve was not all that cheery, thanks to the watchful cops who took positions across the nook and cranny of the twin cities to make sure the celebrations passed off without any accident and untoward incident. Hyderabad police booked about 400 persons for drunken driving and seized their vehicles.
The police who imposed restrictions on the New Year's Eve had clearly warned the revellers to avoid driving vehicles, after being drunk. They conducted special drive against drunken driving by engaging 200 teams, after 2 pm. The exercise which was planned well in advance covered 25 police stations in the twin cities, where the police conducted checks in 60 identified spots.
On the other hand, the Task Force of both Hyderabad and Cyberabad Commissionerates conducted raids after midnight till early morning. During the drive, some youth, both men and women, and event organisers were taken into custody for keeping pubs open beyond permissible hours. The police had earlier imposed restrictions on pub owners too to close them after 1 pm.
For over one week, the police educated event organisers, on the precautionary measures to be taken and restrictions to be observed. Since some of these pubs continued to run till early morning, the police took action against them. Meanwhile, some of the major accidents could be averted due to the restrictions imposed on major roads, highways, ORR and flyovers after 11 pm by both Cyberabad and Hyderabad Commissionerates.
