Hyderabad: Justifying Telangana government’s stand, Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy asserted that the government would hold separate Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) as per the AP Reorganisation Act.Addressing media persons at the Secretariat here on Friday, Jagadish stated, “The government is clear on its stand. We will hold separate EAMCET examination as per the Act and services will be extended to Andhra Pradesh government if it requests for.”
The Minister, who met Governor E S L Narasimhan on this issue on Friday, claimed that Governor was satisfied with the government’s stand. “Governor was informed about dubious acts of AP government. AP has hurriedly released CET dates without consulting Telangana government. He was satisfied with the stand we took,” Reddy said.
He said Narasimhan directed the government to conduct examination in a smooth manner. Reddy, who took exceptions to remarks on Telangana State Council of Higher Education’s (TSCHE) recognition, said council belongs to State as per the Act and was the only authority to conduct exams. The Minister made it clear that students who wish to get into colleges in Telangana should take admission test which TSCHE conducts. He added admissions would be made under 15 per cent open quota.
“There is no ambiguity on the admissions. Students from other States will only be admitted in the open quota,” Reddy asserted. On admissions to State universities, Reddy stated it would be made as it was done earlier. He added that Andhra Pradesh government has been asked to follow the same kind of admission procedure in their universities too.
With the clearance from the government, TSCHE has making arrangements for holding CETs in the State. According to TSCHE chairman T Papi Reddy, a meeting would be held with all vice-chancellors of the universities to decided exam dates on Saturday. In all probability, EAMCET will be held on May 3, he said.
