Hyderabad: Citizens are likely to miss Haridasu during the Sankranti celebrations to be held at Shilparamam this year. They used to be a major attraction during the celebrations in the city in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. Since this Sankranti happens to be the first one after division of the state, the Telangana government wants that Shilparamam, the epicentre of pomp and gaiety should reflect more of Telangana culture. It is felt that Sankranti is more a festival of Andhra Pradesh.

The celebrations used to begin on January 2 and end on Kanuma, a day after Makara Sankranti on January 15. But this time the festivities are likely to begin only around January 10 and may last only for five days. According to sources, the officials of Shilparamam who have been scheduling the events and preparing the blueprint of the celebrations, the date of festivities would be announced in the next two or three days.

They told The Hans India that this time the celebrations are likely to be a scaled-down affair. “Earlier festivities included all the traditions like ‘Haridas’ rendering slokas, bulls parading, etc., but this time, the festivities will reflect the ethnicity of Telangana and the rustic feel of TS will be retained,” sources added.
