Warangal: The seven-day life skills training programme being organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Kakatiya University began at University Post Graduate College for Women in Hanamkonda. About 60 volunteers from various degree and post graduate colleges are attending the programme.

The training programme was aimed at imparting 10 core life skills recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) such as self awareness, empathy, interpersonal relationship, communication, critical thinking, creative thinking, decision making, problem solving, coping with emotions and stress.

Addressing the volunteers, Kakatiya University Registrar Prof MV Ranga Rao said that adolescence was a transition period and adolescents face problems of various kinds. Life skills training help them to translate knowledge, attitudes and values into healthy behaviour. Acquiring the ability to adopt healthy behaviour would further improve their lives, he added.

KU NSS programme coordinator B Suresh Lal pointed out that life skills were abilities of individuals to adapt and develop positive behaviours that empower them to manage challenges in their day-to-day lives.

Life skills were important as they enable individuals to think rationally and take positive actions to ensure personal well-being and productive social relationships and thus lead a successful life, he explained. Faculty members Thirumala, Prof Narsimha Sharma and Dr Sreedevi were present.
