Nirmal (Adilabad): They belong to a remote village in Adilabad district. But they possessed adequate awareness on the significance of donating organs to save lives of patients. Ayitla Lakshminarayana was a native of Gollamada village in Kuntala mandal of Adilabad district. He lived in Narsapur (G) village in Dilawarpur mandal for the past 30 years. He was working for a beedi company on a contract basis.

Lakshminarayana had suffered severe headache and collapsed at his house last Sunday. His family members immediately admitted him to the hospital at Nirmal. Subsequently, he was shifted to another hospital at Kamareddy. As his condition was critical, the family members later admitted him to KIMS in Hyderabad. Doctors at the hospital examined the patient and declared that his brain was dead, but all other organs were functioning well. His wife and sons were shocked to learn that he was no more.

However, his two sons, both B Tech graduates, recovered from the shock and decided to donate his father’s organs to other patients. The thought came to their mind when they recalled that the victims in bomb blasts that occurred in Hyderabad a few years ago required donation of organs to them for their survival. After securing the consent of their mother, they donated their father’s liver, two kidneys and heart valves.
