In the age of online libraries, the City Central Library, Chikkadpally, has donned a new role of a mentor for job aspirants. They are allowed to study under the green cover in a serene atmosphere. As in case with any library, the students are allowed to study library books but not allowed to carry their personal books inside the premises.

Hyderabad: In the age of online libraries, the City Central Library, Chikkadpally, has donned a new role of a mentor for job aspirants. They are allowed to study under the green cover in a serene atmosphere. As in case with any library, the students are allowed to study library books but not allowed to carry their personal books inside the premises. To solve this problem, the City Central Library allows serious job aspirants to carry their chairs but also their student material. This year there is surge of job aspirants as the Telangana State would issue notifications any time as the new State has decided to change syllabus.

“The library has allowed students to use its premises for last 10 years. Some of them who cracked civil service examinations have come back to us and shared their sweet success,” said Venkateshwar Reddy, Librarian. The outstation students, who attend study circles, find the City Central Library convenient as it is a centrally-located and away from maddening crowds. Ravindra from Kadapa and his friend are preparing for Staff Section Commission examinations while another candidate Anil Kumar is preparing for Group II examinations.

“The library chairman Sama Krishna Reddy and BJP MLA Bangaru Laxman have taken interest in extending several facilities to the students,” says O Ramakrishna, a local resident. He has been frequenting the library for the last 10 years. The library has made arrangement for flood lighting from 8 am to 8 pm and it is going ahead with construction of canteen. It wanted to make sure that the students do not get drenched while having their meals.

Meanwhile, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has made arrangements for serving affordable food in the afternoon. The students need not go out for lunch as they can buy Rs 5 meal, which comes with a cup of rice, curry, sambar and pickle.
