Telangana government’s plans to make Hyderabad as the start-up capital of India got a major fillip with laying of foundation for technology incubation centre ‘T-Hub’ at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) premises in Gachibowli on Friday. This facility, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship besides developing start-up ecosystem, will be operational by June.

Hyderabad: Telangana government’s plans to make Hyderabad as the start-up capital of India got a major fillip with laying of foundation for technology incubation centre ‘T-Hub’ at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) premises in Gachibowli on Friday. This facility, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship besides developing start-up ecosystem, will be operational by June.

The T-Hub is being set up in collaboration with IIIT Hyderabad, the Indian School of Business (ISB) and the NALSAR University of Law. While NALSAR would help in intellectual property and related areas, ISB and IIIT would provide business mentoring and technology mentoring respectively. The first phase coming up at IIIT at a cost of Rs 35 crore will be spread over 60,000 square feet and can accommodate 400 start-ups by 2017.

In the second phase, to commence from 2017 onwards, the centre would have its own campus of over 300,000 square feet. To be built at an estimated cost of Rs.200 crore, the campus will house various stakeholders like start-ups, investors and service providers.

Speaking on the occasion, Information Technology Minister K Tarakarama Rao stated that T-Hub coming up in 65,000 square feet area will be one of its kind platform in the country for aspiring IT entrepreneurs to transform their ideas and dreams into a reality.

Start-up companies, which are in any of the three stages - launch pad, accelerator and propeller, would be given an opportunity to join T-Hub. They would be assisted by T-Hub regarding business, technology, intellectual property and other issues relating to their product, he added. Around 170 start-up companies and 800 individuals would be given opportunity in Phase I.
