Hyderabad: The AICC general secretary and Congress in-charge for Telangana, Digvijay Singh, is not in a mood to revamp the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) until a capable leader is found to lead the party in the State in the future, it is learnt.

In the-two day brainstorming session held by Digvijay with TPCC leaders on January 20 and 22 at the party head office Telangana Bhavan here, Singh was flooded with representations from senior leaders who aspired to become the TPCC chief in place of P Lakshmaiah. Sources said that leaders from SC (Scheduled Castes) community - party senior leader Damodara Rajanarasimsha, G Vinod, J Geeta Reddy and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka – were vying for the top post in the party in Telangana.

From the Reddy community - TPCC working president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and other senior leaders P Sunitha Laxma Reddy, KR Suresh Reddy and DK Aruna expressed their desire to lead the party in the present crisis period. From BC community, V Hanumantha Rao and D Srinivas are understood to have tried hard to convince Digvijay to get the coveted post.

Sources said considering high competition for TPCC chief’s post, Digvijay reportedly clarified the aspirants that the party high command wanted to appoint a capable leader through consensus from within the party so that internal bickering could be avoided in the future. He also made it clear that the leader who acquired good leadership quality with strong financial background would be given opportunity as the Telangana Congress chief had to shoulder the burden of running the party in the State. The second-rung leaders brought to the notice of Digvijay and AICC (SC Cell) chairman K Raju in an in-camera meeting the negligence of the party cadre at district and mandal level by senior leaders for which the party had to pay heavy price in the 2014 general elections even though the Congress-led UPA awarded Telangana by realising the long-cherished dream of people. They also complained against some senior leaders who were ministers in the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy government from Telangana for denying them the nominated posts in different departments.
