Hyderabad: A day after rescuing around 100 children belonging to Bihar who were working as bonded labourers in bangle factories here, city police on Friday rescued another 55 kids who were employed as workers in hazardous industries in different areas. "Continuing the raids at different places in Kalapathar, Reinbazar, Dabeerpura and Mirchowk areas here, police rescued 55 more children in the age group of 6-13 years who were employed as child labourers in hazardous industries," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) V Satyanarayana said.

"Since yesterday we have arrested ten persons (eight on Thursday and two on Friday). We have also filed police custody petitions in order to interrogate other 15 accused who were arrested on Saturday last," the DCP said. Telangana government wants zero tolerance and has deputed several officials from different departments and along with police a special drive has been taken up, he said, adding those arrested have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Labour Act and the Juvenile Justice Act.

Last Saturday, police had rescued over 200 children, including 10 girls, hailing from Bihar working in hazardous industries from the Old City and arrested 15 persons. Most of these children were from Gaya, Jehanabad, Nalanda and Nawada districts of Bihar. According to police, they are given advance of Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 and forced to work at bangle manufacturing units for very small salary.
