Mahabubnagar: District Collector TK Sreedevi’s decision to launch a website for receiving online petitions has not gone down well with the people in the district. After launching the website, the Collector said that online system would be more useful to people and their problems would be solved at their door-step.

People are of the opinion that officials are reluctant to solve their problems when they submit petitions on the weekly grievance day. They expressed doubts whether officials would look into their petitions when they submit them online.

Every Monday, petitioners in large number throng the Collectorate from various parts of the district to submit their petitions to the Collector. Elderly persons, physically-challenged, visually-impaired and women wait for long hours in order to submit their petitions.

The officials are unable to provide proper seating arrangements for them at the Revenue Bhavan in the Collectorate. It is the belief of the people that their problems would be addressed only when they directly hand over their petitions to the Collector.

Moreover, the website was launched without giving any publicity. Some people said that only educated people could send petitions online. They wondered as to how could elderly people and illiterate send the petitions. People are requesting the Collector to continue the weekly grievance day even though the district administration has difficulties in conducting it.
