Karimnagar: Finance Minister Eatala Rajender on Saturday directed the officials expedite the road-widening works taken up in the city at a cost of Rs 46 crore. During a review meeting held at the R&B Guest House here, he said the works should be speeded up keeping in mind the future needs of the people.

He said pipelines should be tough enough to last several years. Work on drainage, laying of water pipelines and setting up electricity poles should be completed before laying roads, he said. The Finance Minister said development works could be completed quickly if there was coordination between various departments.

He asked the officials to obtain permission from the Electricity Department and BSNL authorities for setting up poles. He instructed the officials concerned to complete the work on the sub-station at Huzurabad. MLA Gangula Kamalakar asked the officials to clear big trees and electricity poles wherever necessary during road-widening.

“The population in the city has increased tremendously. Remove encroachments from the road. There is ample space at the Rythu Bazaar that can be used by roadside vendors,” he said. Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad, ZP chairperson Tula Uma, Mayor Sardar Ravinder Singh, R&B superintending engineer Chandu Lal, Transco superintending engineer Narayana, Municipal Commissioner Ramana Chary and others were present at the meeting.
