Sangareddy: With the introduction of Kalyana Lakshmi scheme, 30,000 Scheduled Caste families will reap the benefits amounting to Rs 175 crore, according to MV Reddy, Director of SC Development Department.

M V Reddy who visited Medak district to check the status of developmental programmes in Medak District, addressed the media at the District Collectorate here on Monday.

He said that after the formation of Telangana State, the social welfare department has been renamed as Scheduled Castes Development Department by the state government.

Referring to the welfare schemes, he said that girls from scheduled castes can secure a financial benefit of Rs 51,000 as part of the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme

He pointed out that though in the district and mandal levels, the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme was working fine, he felt that coming to the village level, awareness about the scheme is lacking in the people. Out of 227 applicants in the district, 158 people got help from the government, he said.

He pointed out that the government has allotted a budget of Rs 3400 crore for the department and that it is running 801 hostels throughout the state. He said that the department was imparting training to youth to help them secure employment. It has been running study circles in Hyderabad. Study circles would soon offer classes in Warangal and Nalgonda, he said.
