Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) skipped the meeting convened on Monday by the Ministry of Home Affairs on combating and curtailing Left wing extremism (LWE) in four states of the ‘Red Corridor’ though he was in the capital. He deputed Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma and DGP Anurag Sharma for the meet.

New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) skipped the meeting convened on Monday by the Ministry of Home Affairs on combating and curtailing Left wing extremism (LWE) in four states of the ‘Red Corridor’ though he was in the capital. He deputed Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma and DGP Anurag Sharma for the meet.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also skipped the meet. Both the Chief Ministers do not have any electoral or political alliance either with the BJP or the Congress. Rajiv Sharma and Anurag Sharma highlighted the developmental projects pending in Telangana and sought Central assistance for early clearances, including installing signal towers and FM radio stations, for better coordination among the police forces.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the developmental and infrastructure projects in Chattisgarh, Telangana, Odisha and Maharashtra, including radio and TV connectivity and forest and environmental clearances. He emphasized the need to speed up projects particularly in Bastar region but assured the states of Centre’s monetary support and in giving paramilitary forces.

Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways & Shipping Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Communications & Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani, Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu, Minister of State for Home Affairs Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary and Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore were also present along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Chattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh.

The states gave their views on combating Naxalism and demanded more funds for modernizing their police forces. The Centre has concurred to give special assistance and may consider necessary relaxations in the policies and schemes for the development of these areas especially in Bastar.

Dr Raman Singh apprised that 700 kms of sanctioned roads are yet to be completed in Chattisgarh and also construction of two major bridges. At this meeting it was decided to install 900 mobile towers in the state. He also stressed the need for installing higher capacity TV / radio stations like FM radio stations for better connectivity in the Bastar region.
