Mahadevpur (Karimnagar): The Forest Department officials have found a huge fossil measuring about 20 feet in Godavari river basin, in the forest on the outskirts of Vadidham village in Sirivancha mandal.

While digging water pits in the Vadidham forests to provide water to animals, the forest officials found nearly 20 feet long, fish-shaped fossil.

Receiving information from the beat officer, Sirivancha Tahsildar Mishra and DFO Shukla went to the place of excavation and saw the fossil. They passed on the information to the Archaeological Department at Nagpur.
The officials, who came from Nagpur, collected the samples of the fossil and took them to Kolkata for research.

DFO Shukla said, "After getting the complete details from the Lab, we can tell whether the fossil belonged to an animal or a tree. It is estimated that similar fossils would be found in nearly 30 acres."

Dinosaur fossils found earlier: In 1959, Dr Jain, a scientist from Kolkata, conducted research in the Godavari river basin of Maharashtra and excavated fossils of dinosaur.

Another scientist who came from New Delhi spent nearly one month in Mahadevpur and did research on the outskirts of nearby villages Borlagudem, Kanukunur, Polaram, Dhannuwada, Damerakunta, Rallapalli and Pratapagiri. He also found dinosaur fossils in the fields on the outskirts of Dhannuwada village. He sent those fossils to Hyderabad. In 1987, a giant lizard's fossil was excavated in Guntlakunta village of Kataram mandal.
