Hyderabad: The Telangana government has issued directions to stop release of water to Nagarjuna Sagar Right Bank canal from Wednesday. It expressed helplessness to release water for Rabi crop in Krishna Delta. Elaborating details here, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said that Andhra Pradesh had drawn 44 tmcft of extra water than the stipulated 322 tmcft allotted to it. This led to drastic fall in water level in the reservoir, he lamented.

He, however, stated that TS would reconsider if AP wrote a letter giving details of water drawn till now and how much tmcft it required further. The CM would be consulted in case the neigbouring State put up a request, Harish pointed out. This decision was taken after the Minister’s meeting with officials of irrigation department at Secretariat on Wednesday.

Officials brought to his notice that AP had drawn 364 tmcft of water till now despite Bachawat Tribunal allotting it 322 tmcft. On the other hand, TS utilised only 137 tmcft of water of the 239 TMC ft allocated to it by the tribunal. It still needs to utilise 93 tmcof water from the stipulated quota.
