Hyderabad: There is an all-round criticism over slow-moving nature of inquiry into encroachment on government and wakf lands, apart from irregularities in Cooperative Housing Societies in Telangana State.

It took over two months for the government to constitute committees after the announcement that an inquiry would be ordered. So far the respective chairpersons of the committees have not convened meeting, according to MLA T Jeevan Reddy. Jeevan Reddy is part of the 13-member panel formed under the chairmanship of TRS MLA Aroori Ramesh. The committee has been constituted to look into irregularities in Co-operative Housing Societies in entire Telangana State, including Jubilee Hills Co-operative Housing Society and Film Nagar Housing Society among others in Hyderabad.

Besides House Committee on Co-operative Housing Societies; House panel to look into illegal occupation of government lands, including Endowment lands, Bhoodan lands, Ceiling lands, Inam lands and Assignment lands under TRS MLA M Sudheer Reddy as chairman and House committee to inquire into Wakf Lands under chairmanship of TRS MLA Bajireddy Goverdhan were also constituted.

The probe panel on government lands was also asked to inquire into land grabbing allegations against TPCC chief Ponnala Laxmaiah at Dharmasagar Mandal of Warangal district.

Meanwhil, former minister and Gadwal MLA D K Aruna too echoed similar sentiments like her colleague Jeevan Reddy. She said that House Committee to inquire into Wakf properties, of which she is one of the members, had not yet held its first meeting. These committees are supposed to submit reports within three months from the first date of meeting. She said even the terms of reference of the committee have not been prepared. With the key budget session coming up, it remains to be seen whether these inquiry committees will hold first meeting or not, she added.

Uppal BJP MLA NVSS Prabhakar, who is also part of the panel to look into government lands issue, demanded that the first meeting of the committee be convened before the budget session.
