Plead for resumption of production

Adilabad: The Sirpur Paper Mills (SPM) workers organised a Maha Dharna in Kagaznagar on Friday demanding that the management should pay pending salaries and re-start the production. Later, they staged a protest by begging for alms in the town.

A worker, Tumma Ramesh, alleged that the SPM management stopped paper production five months ago and had thrown out the workers on to the streets. Workers came down heavily on the management for not responding to their demands even though they had been organising relay hunger strike for the past 53 days.

“Workers are in a pathetic condition without wages and the only option left for them is to seek alms in the streets by holding begging bowls,” they lamented. They said that several workers were working as daily labourers to earn their living. Workers have requested the SPM management to re-start paper production and clear their pending wages. They stated that they would launch relay hunger strike in Hyderabad if the management fails to resume production.
