Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has agreed to the request of juniordoctors to treat their 62-day strike of last year as leave.

KCR’s decision will allow the junior doctors to appear for the PG Medical Common Entrance Test, scheduled to begin from March 1. The Junior Doctors had gone on strike from September 29 to November 29, 2014, opposing the GO on one -year mandatory rural service.

Representatives of junior doctors, accompanied State Health minister C. Lakhsma Reddy, Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr Putta Srinivas met KCR over the issue. The junior doctors requested the CM to extend the length of the house surgeon course by two months, until May 31.

Junior doctors accepted their mistake and assured KCR not to spark such a situation again, in future. Taking note of the junior doctors’ promise, the Chief Minister directed the Health minister and the DME to do the needful so that they can appear in their examination.

When contacted, Dr Kranti, President of Gandhi Hospital Junior Doctors’ Association said the junior doctors will now appear for the PG medical entrance without any problem. He added that testimonials like attendance can be submitted during the time of admission, after passing the PG medical entrance test.
