The campus students alleged that Devender, who is attached to Mechanical department, has been harassing some girl students by sending vulgar messages and calling them on their mobile phones late in the night.

Hyderabad: Students of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad on Friday held a massive protest demanding termination of services of Prof Devender from the university. The campus students alleged that Devender, who is attached to Mechanical department, has been harassing some girl students by sending vulgar messages and calling them on their mobile phones late in the night.

The students, who took out a rally in the campus, burnt the effigy of the professor demanding termination of his services. Both students and professors have lodged complaints against each other at Kukatpally police station. The Kukatpally inspector of police, V Sreekanth Goud, said some girl students have registered a complaint alleging that the professor had been pestering them for their photos and phone numbers.

Goud further added that Devender lodged a complaint against the students for man-handling him. “We have registered both the complaints and enquiry is on,” he added. JNTU-H Registrar Prof N V Ramana Rao said they have suspended services of Devender. “A committee has been constituted to look into the allegations of the lecturer and the students. We will take further action once the committee submits its report,” he added.
