Mahbubnagar: A family in the town is subjected to a lot of misery owing to the wrong diagnosis of an ailment. Suspected that the family is suffering from swine-flu, it has been ostracised by friends in the neighborhood.

Syed Minhaz and his wife Ashriya are teachers in a private school here. Recently, Ashriya, who was suffering from cough and cold, was taken to the government hospital on February 14 and the doctors after conducting tests inadvertently said she was suffering from swine flu and advised her to go to Hyderabad for a better medical treatment. They also made this suggestion to the District Health officials at Gadwal.

Immediately, the district officials led by the Tahsildar, reached their house and forcibly sent the couple to Hyderabad in the 108 ambulance without making any efforts to persuade them. They also created a big scene in the colony and warned their neighbors against interacting with the couple. Surprisingly, after reaching Hyderabad, doctors conducted various tests on the couple and diagnosed that Ashriya and Minhaz were not suffering from Swine flu.

However, the agony for the family began after they returned to Mahbubnagar. Their neighbors stopped interacting with them fearing that they were suffering from swine flu. They were watched suspiciously. Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Ashriya’s mother Razia Begum said the entire family was facing a lot of agony as they were subjected to psychological torture. The private school management terminated the services of the couple, fearing the spread of swine flu. Even their children were made to sit separately in the school, she lamented.

Syed Minhaz said that it was shocking to see that they were being ostracised in the society for no fault of theirs, though the District Health officers said that swine flu was not a dreaded disease and that it would not spread if preventive measures were taken.

He said that his wife was not suffering from swine flu but the swine flu scare has shattered their lives. He wondered as to how such things were taking place in the hometown of the state health minister.
