Life histories of Telangana Dalit icons like Bhagya Reddy Varma and Eashwari Bai would be incorporated in the school curriculum in the state said Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
On Tuesday, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao, speaking at a function held at Ravindra Bharati said that along with all the Dalit icons of the state, life history of the firebrand political leader Eashwari Bai will be incorporated in the school curriculum.
Retired IAS official P.S. Krishnan who worked relentlessly to uplift the marginalized and impoverished Dalits was awarded the Eashwari Bai Memorial Award for this year on Saturday. Mr Krishnan also lauded the government saying that some schemes initiated by the government like offering three acres land to Dalits are praiseworthy.
In response to Mr Krishnan, the CM said that a modest start has been made and the state government would be getting even more ambitious in the future. Former minister J. Geeta Reddy and Eashwari Bai’s daughter speaking on her mother said that she was a firebrand leader who wanted to be the people’s voice and also proposed free education for girls.
