The Telangana government on Monday informed the PIL bench that the scholarships under the Financial Assistance to Students of Telangana schemes would be implemented keeping Constitutional provisions of Article 371 D of the Constitution of India.

The assurance came during the course of hearing public interest writ petitions filed by former ministers questioning the action of the Telangana government in only granting the scholarships under the FAST scheme to children of parents who were bonafide residents of Telangana prior to November 1956 alone.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sengupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar wanted a full-fledged comprehensive counter affidavit in this regard. “TS decides to implement postmatric scholarship to eligible local students as per scholarship policy in terms of Article 371-D, as applicable to state of Telangana”, was filed before the bench. The bench recorded the memo and closed the petition.
