Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao on Monday informed the State Legislative Council that efforts were on to improve the road connectivity in backward areas of Telangana State.
Replying to a question raised by MLC KR Amos in the Council during Question Hour, the Minister informed that about 716 km length of National Highways under National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), passing through Adilabad, Nizambad, Medak, Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts, were four-lane. They include Nagpur-Hyderabad section and Hyderabad-Bangalore section of NH7 (new NH-44), NH-9 (New NH-65) of Hyderabad-Vijayawada section and Hyderabad-Yadagirigutta section of NH-202 (New NH-163). Further, works for four-lane road of about 70 km length under NHAI from KM.423 to KM.493 of Solapur-Sangareddy section of NH-9 (New NH-65) falling in Medak district is under progress.
The stretch of about 100 km length from KM.54 to 150 of Yadagirigutta-Warangal section of NH-202 (New NH-163) falling in Nalgonda and Warangal districts has been identified and are finalised for making four-lane, the Minister said.
While Amos demanded that more stretches of roads be taken up for upgrading, Congress MLC Mohammed Ali Shabbir asked the State government to take measures to reduce traffic congestions on the routes leading to the city from various districts. He said while it took about an hour to reach the city's outskirts from the neighbouring district headquarters, it takes almost double time to reach the destination due to heavy traffic on city roads. Responding to the queries, Tummala said the government was proposing to construct expressways and flyovers to decongest city roads.
