Refutes Opposition charge that the government is cheating weaker sections by making false promises
Hyderabad: Refuting the charge that the Telangana government was ‘cheating’ backward classes, State Finance Minister Eatala Rajender claimed that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government was committed to the development of backward classes.
Taking part in the debate on Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s address to the joint session of the Assembly and Council, CPI member Ravindra Kumar alleged that the TRS government was cheating the BCs by making false promises.
Rajender took exception to his comment, reminding him that it was the TRS government that had sanctioned fine quality rice to the BC welfare hostels for the first time. The Finance Minister added that the government had so far distributed 250 acres of government land and 1,250 acres of private land purchased by the government to Dalits as part of the scheme to distribute three acres of land to each landless Dalit family in the State.
Eatala asserted that it was the TRS government which would be disbursing a huge sum of Rs 15,000 crore as part of the second instalment towards farmers’ loan waiver.
State Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy chipped in saying that as many as 36 lakh farmers were benefited in the first round of loan waiver. Banks had already disbursed an aggregate sum of Rs1,670 crore in the first phase loan waiver, he said.
Earlier, ruling party member from Wardhannapet, Aruri Ramesh initiated the debate on Motion of Thanks to Governor’s address. According to Ramesh, following the introduction of ‘Aasara’ pension scheme, elder people in villages had begun to see Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao as their eldest son.
Another ruling party member Gongidi Sunitha also praised Chandrashekar Rao for respecting the Telangana tradition, when he raised the amount under ‘Kalyana Lakshmi’ scheme from Rs 50,000 to Rs 51,000. “The Chief Minister has incorporated the traditional aspect into the scheme changing 50 to 51. Because, in Telangana, we give Rs 21 or Rs 101 as donation to a cause,” she said.
However, Left party members Ravindra Kumar Naik and Sunnam Rajaiah alleged that the Governor’s address to the joint session was just a rehash of his address to the joint sitting that was held after the Assembly elections.
Ravindra Naik faulted the TRS government for projecting false figures in the Governor’s address.
Sunnam Rajaiah lambasted the government for its failure to include the farmers’ suicides and drought-hit mandals in the Governor’s joint address. He ridiculed the growth rate of 5.1 percent as rubbish. He demanded the government to set targets for BC welfare schemes and also launch a sub-plan for BCs on the lines of SC-ST sub-plan.
