The district authorities have identified 142 minor irrigation tanks for the Central government-assisted project of Repairs, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) of traditional water bodies.

Khammam: The district authorities have identified 142 minor irrigation tanks for the Central government-assisted project of Repairs, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) of traditional water bodies.

Under the project, the Centre would contribute 75 per cent of funds for the RRR works and the State government would have to contribute 25 per cent.

During a review on the RRR works here on Tuesday, District Collector K Ilambarthi said the authorities sent proposals of 39 tanks to harness flood water thereby improving the capacity of the water
bodies.

In addition, detailed project reports for another 66 tanks would be sent to the government for approval.

He said most tanks identified for the RRR project were located in Maoist-infested and tribal areas of the district.

Minor irrigation executive engineer Chitti Rao, RWS superintending engineer Jagan Mohan Reddy, DWMA project director Jagatkumar Reddy, Central Water Commission official Swarupa Rani and scientist Bharat Bhushan were present.
