To ensure transparency in the payment of wages to those working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), the administration is taking steps to open bank accounts to all the labourers in the district.
Khammam: To ensure transparency in the payment of wages to those working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), the administration is taking steps to open bank accounts to all the labourers in the district. District Collector K Ilambarthi, while reviewing the progress of MGNREGS works on Tuesday, directed project director Jagatkumar Reddy to initiate steps to open bank accounts to all the workers. Of the 5,04,476 labourers in the district, accounts were opened with the Grameena Vikas Bank for 4,54,476 labourers. He instructed the officials to ensure payment of wages to the labourers only through online transaction. The officials were also asked to take steps to link the bank accounts with Aadhaar numbers. The Collector directed the officials to take up field surveys to identify problems in the implementation of MGNREGS.
